AURAL AUTOMATA 4 | CRYSTAL

This generative soundscape is based on a single, 3-second sample of my friend Crystal Newman's voice. Six copies of the sample have been placed at random locations on the canvas. These sound sources have been passed through various effects (e.g., rate changes, lowpass filters, reverb, and various forms of convolution). The volume of each sound source is controlled dynamically by an invisible particle that drifts across the canvas. As the particle approaches the location of a sound source, the volume increases. The visual scene is also generated dynamically as a function of the distance between the invisible particle and the location of each of the sound sources.

Both the aural and visual patterns are generative. They are created in real-time, via emergent processes. They will never repeat themselves, although the gist of each will be familiar across different runs.
